We're Merging With Dependable Auto Service, And Creating New Anthem Collision Center

We're excited to announce that we will merge our mechanical repair and body repair services with Henry Patton and Kim Franklin of Dependable Auto Service. As a result of the merger, Henry and Kim will join our team at Anthem Chevrolet. Kim will join Butch Smith as a Service Consultant at the dealership under the leadership of Service Manager Maurice Daniels. Henry will bring his vast knowledge and years of experience as a Service Technician to the Anthem Chevrolet service team. The merger will also mean that Dependable Auto Service will no longer stand as the independent repair facility it has been for the past 15 years. This allows for the transfer of our body shop operations from the dealership to the current Dependable Auto Service building, creating one of the largest body shops in the area. The new body shop will be called Anthem Collision Center, and will be managed by current Body Shop Manager, Steve Edwards. Because our body shop provides body repair work for every insurance carrier and repairs every make and model of vehicle, it has outgrown the current facility at the dealership. It was the growth in the body repair business, along with similar growth in our mechanical repair business that caused me to consider a larger body facility and additional service staff prompting me to discuss the merger with Kim and Henry. They are two of the finest people in the business, asking them to join our team was an easy decision. Their commitment to taking care of their customers for the past 15 years says everything I need to know about how valuable they will be to our organization. Not only are we fortunate enough to have them join us, but the move allows us to greatly increase our body shop operation. It supports our goal of being the only place customers need to go to for all of their repair needs. Kim, Henry and the team at Anthem have a common goal, great customer service. Silverado HD Named 2011 Motor Trend Truck of the Year

Philadelphia – The Chevrolet Silverado HD is the 2011 Motor Trend Truck of the Year, completing a rare same-year sweep of the prestigious car and truck awards. Chevrolet also earned the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year award.
The truck award was presented to GM CEO Dan Akerson before the 111th Army-Navy Game at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. Chevrolet is the Official Vehicle of the Army-Navy Game.
“On the outside the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD appears to have been given a subtle makeover, but it’s what’s under the skin that makes this truck a winner,” said Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Angus MacKenzie. “Chevy engineers focused on three key areas – powertrain, frame, and suspension – to deliver a truck with significantly improved capability and more refinement.”
The new 2011 Silverado HD built in Flint, Mich., and Fort Wayne, Ind., was introduced this summer, featuring new frame and suspension designs, and a more powerful Duramax diesel engine with 397 horsepower, 765 lb.-ft. of torque, and 11 percent better fuel-economy. As a result, the 2011 Silverado HD is capable of towing up to 21,700 pounds, or carrying 6,635 pounds of payload. The new Silverado HD also offers available confidence- and control-related features specifically for towing including electronic trailer sway control, hill start assist and smart exhaust brake system.
“With more capability and technology than ever before, we believe the Chevrolet Silverado HD sets the bar for heavy-duty trucks,” said Akerson.
“It’s a great honor to have such a respected authority as Motor Trend agree.”

All-New Name for All-New U.S. Built Small Car: Chevrolet Sonic....

DETROIT – Chevrolet announced today that its all-new, U.S. built small car will be called the Chevrolet Sonic in North America.

“The Sonic represents a new beginning for Chevrolet in the small car segment and so we felt it was time to give it a new name,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet U.S. Marketing. “The new car is roomy, stylish and fun to drive, and Sonic is a youthful, energetic name that helps convey what this vehicle is about.”
The small car will carry the Sonic name in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Production of the Sonic begins in 2011 at GM’s Orion Assembly Center in Michigan, which received a $545-million investment in upgrades and retooling, and will help restore approximately 1,000 jobs in the metropolitan Detroit area.
The vehicle will continue to be called Aveo in other parts of the world, where it will be sold in more than 50 countries.

Chevrolet Volt Named Motor Trend 2011 Car of the Year

DETROIT – Motor Trend magazine, one of the world's premier automotive authorities, today named the Chevrolet Volt the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
“We expected a science experiment, but this is a moon shot,” Motor Trend editors wrote for the January 2011 issue. “The Volt delivers on the promise of the vehicle concept as originally outlined by GM, combining the smooth, silent, efficient, low-emissions capability of an electric motor with the range and flexibility of an internal combustion engine. It is a fully functional, no-compromise compact automobile that offers consumers real benefits in terms of lower running costs.”
Many of those benefits are due to the Volt’s groundbreaking propulsion system. As the world’s first electric vehicle with extended range capability, the Chevrolet Volt has a total driving range of about 350 miles. For the first 25 to 50 miles, the Volt drives gas- and tailpipe-emissions-free using electricity stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion battery. When the Volt’s battery runs low, a gas powered engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range more than 300 miles on a full tank.
The Motor Trend Car of the Year award was presented to Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman for Global Product Operations, at the General Motors wind tunnel in Warren, Mich.
Aero dynamics engineers there helped develop an equally revolutionary design: With a drag coefficient of .28, the Volt is also the most aerodynamic sedan in Chevrolet’s history. Lowering the drag coefficient increases the vehicle’s efficiency, as less energy is used to overcome air pressure. As an example, aerodynamics contributes up to eight miles of electric range, and 40 miles of extended range.
“Chevrolet is truly honored to receive one of the world’s most coveted automotive awards,” said Stephens. “The Volt team has worked under extraordinary circumstances to produce this breakthrough vehicle.”

Chevrolet Awards Detroit Pitcher New Corvette

DETROIT – Chevrolet today awarded Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga a 2010 Corvette convertible, recognizing his outstanding performance on and off the field.
    Galarraga retired 26 consecutive Cleveland Indians batters on Wednesday evening. The 27th and final batter, Jason Donald, hit a routine ball in the hole between first and second base. Tigers’ first baseman Miguel Cabrera fielded the ball and threw to Galarraga, who stepped on first base, apparently before Donald touched the base and was called safe.
     Galarraga kept his cool, returned to the mound and retired the next batter to record a one-hit, 3-0 shutout, throwing just 88 pitches.
     GM North American President Mark Reuss, who presented a Chevrolet Corvette to Galarraga at today's game against the Cleveland Indians, said the way the pitcher had handled the incredible events deserved to be recognized regardless of what record books would ultimately show.
     Reuss said he had known the Ilitch family, owners of the Detroit Tigers, his whole life and the family has always been a great supporter of General Motors.
     "It is only fitting we help give back for all the Ilitches have done for Detroit and to celebrate Armando’s pitching and sportsmanship during one of the most captivating evenings in Tigers history.”

......a home run! Saturday was the start of the 2010 version of Hoopeston Area Youth Baseball with our 2010 Chevy Avalanche in the opening day parade. The parade concluded at the youth baseball fields where we kicked off the Chevy Youth Baseball program. After passing out the equipment from Chevy and presenting our league with a $500 donation, yours truly threw out the opening pitch (a strike of course) and the season was underway. We have taken a major role in environmental protection and energy conservation with the installation of a Clean Burn used-oil furnace. This means that our entire service department is now being heated by burning the used motor oil that comes from our customers' vehicles, reducing by thousands of gallons a year the used oil we have discarded in the past, as well as greatly reducing our natural gas consumption.

The Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Equinox are among the finalists for the 17th North American Car and Truck of the Year awards that will be announced at the North American International Auto Show on Jan. 11.

The awards are designed to recognize the most outstanding vehicles of the year based on factors that include innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.

To be eligible, vehicles must be "all-new" or "substantially changed" from the previous model. This year the jury of 49 veteran automotive journalists considered more than 50 vehicles and finally focused on 16 cars and 10 trucks.

The awards are unique because -- instead of being given by a single media outlet -- they are given by automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who represent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and web sites.

General Motors has won North American Car of the Year three times. Most recently, the Chevrolet Malibu was the 2008 North American Car of the Year and the Saturn Aura was the 2007 North American Car of the Year. Chevrolet's vehicles have been named the North American Truck of the Year three times. Most recently the Silverado was the 2007 North American Truck of the Year.

The other finalists for 2009 Car of the Year are the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Volkswagen Golf/GTI. The other Truck of the Year finalists are the Ford Transit Connect and Subaru Outback.

We've teamed up with SantaCares2, a local program aimed at helping children in need get Christmas presents, and we're asking for your help. The program provides gifts to local children, between the ages of 11-12, who might not be able to receive Christmas gifts this holiday season. Our own Megan Deck is one of the event organizers and she said last year the program was able to provide gifts to 23 children in the community. She said the children all received a coat, scarf and gloves as well as several other gifts. Thanks to monetary and gift donations these children had a great Christmas. Our hope is to make sure Santacares2 is able to have the same success this year.

This is where you come in. We're asking for you're help to make Santacares2 succesful again in 2009 by making a monetary or gift donation to the program. Checks made payable to Anthem Chevrolet or gift donations can be brought to the dealership from now through Dec. 5. It's important though that if you typically donate to the Miracle Tree or Toys for Tots that you continue to do this. Santacares2 is intended for children that do not fit within the Miracle Tree or Toys for Tot's age brackets. The Miracle Tree and Toys for Tots are important programs that serve many local kids aged 10 and under.

Anthem has now registered with the Department of Transportation for participation in the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS), better known as Cash For Clunkers. The program that provides vouchers from the DOT ranging from $3500-4500 for customers to trade in their older vehicles for a more fuel efficient one begins Monday. Over 200 People See The 2010 Camaro Unveiled!

A huge crowd was at Anthem to watch the unveiling of the 2010 Camaro....and they were not disappointed. The showroom resembled a party complete with 60's music, hot dogs, apple pie and of course Chevrolets, as over 200 people passed thru the showroom last night to see over 40 years of Camaros. The guest of honor lived up to expectations as the 300 plus horsepower 6 cylinder Camaro RS was unveiled at 6:00 to the largest crowd the dealership has ever seen. Many people drove over an hour, proving that indeed, all roads lead to Anthem. Several generations of Camaros filled the showroom including cars from 1967, 1969, 1981, and 2002, with several others displayed outside. A big thanks to Dale McCord and all of the car owners for helping make our event a huge success. The great food was provided by Bertha and Marty Parsons and was as always, perfect. Thanks also to the crew at WHPO and WCIA Channel 3....they are the best. The car was sold last night but will be on display for a few days, so if you missed it you still have time to see it.

Obviously we're serious about offering our customers a wide variety of used cars to choose from. The 2 truckloads we purchased this week were delivered to the dealership yesterday. Now comes the real work. Before these vehicles are lot ready they have to pass a 117 point inspection by Neil, Casey, and Brandyn, some of the best technicians to ever pick up a wrench. Any one that needs brakes, tires, belts, etc. gets what is needed. Tracy then makes sure every one is completely detailed and ready for their date with the photographer, yours truly.
